Escalate to Linear, follow it from Slack

Send a request to engineering as a Linear issue, with a summary and a link back to the Slack thread. The issue's status comes back to the triage card. Linear is optional, and an admin connects it.

Escalate opens a modal with team, title, priority and a summary, and the issue's status then shows on the triage card

Why escalations lose context

Someone copies the message into an issue, engineering asks what the thread already answered, and nobody tells the customer when the fix ships. Thorpe keeps the request and the issue linked both ways.

Escalate from the triage card

On the request's card, open the overflow menu and choose Escalate. The modal shows Team, Title and Priority, starting from the request's own title and priority, and a summary to edit before sending.

In the card's thread, Thorpe posts who escalated it and the issue key. Priorities carry over to Linear.

The summary, with or without AI

AI is off until an admin turns it on in Settings > AI. With AI off, the summary holds the customer's first message and a link to the thread. With AI on, a model drafts a short summary from the thread, including your team's replies and internal notes, and the modal labels it "AI-generated, may be inaccurate."

Either way, you read and edit it, up to 3,000 characters, before it goes into Linear as the issue's description.

Status back in Slack, not in the customer channel

When the issue moves, Thorpe posts a line in the card's thread, such as "ENG-142 moved to In Progress", and the card's Linear field updates. When it is completed or canceled, Thorpe DMs the request's owner with a link to the customer's thread, so they can tell the customer. If the request has no owner, that prompt goes in the card's thread. Issue updates never go to the customer channel.

In the web app, the request shows a Linear issue card with the key, the status and Open in Linear.

A Linear issue moves from Todo to In Progress to Done, and the triage card's Linear line and thread follow

How it works

  1. Step 1

An admin goes to Settings > Integrations, chooses Connect Linear and approves access in Linear.

  2. Step 2

The admin picks a Default team for new escalations.

  3. Step 3

On a triage card, choose Escalate, check the team, title, priority and summary, and send it.

  4. Step 4

Follow the issue in the card's thread. The owner gets a DM when it is completed or canceled.

Questions

Does Escalate show before Linear is connected?

Yes, on every open card. Until an admin connects Linear, its modal says Linear is not connected and points to Settings > Integrations.

What happens if we disconnect Linear?

Thorpe revokes its Linear access, linked issues stop syncing status, and the default team is cleared. If the card in Settings shows Needs reconnecting, choose Reconnect Linear.
